Klimabonus Luxembourg 2026: the complete guide to the subsidies

The Klimabonus Wunnen is the Luxembourg State's subsidy scheme for the energy transition of homes. It subsidises the installation of photovoltaic panels, storage batteries and heat pumps, as well as insulation and window replacement.

Since 1 January 2026 the scheme has been completely overhauled: amounts are now clear flat rates, the former Tripartite bonus is built into the base subsidies, and the requirement that the boiler be at least 10 years old has been removed. The scheme applies to invoices issued between 2026 and 2035.

The major change is pre-financing. For photovoltaics, the approved installer now deducts the subsidy directly from your invoice. You no longer have to pay it upfront or wait for the reimbursement.

The photovoltaic subsidy is degressive: it rises with the installed power up to a cap of €10,000 reached around 15 kWp. The minimum eligible power is 2 kWp and the installation must run in self-consumption.

Expect about €957 per kWp on the first bands. Here are concrete examples for a typical Luxembourg home:

A battery stores the solar electricity produced during the day so you can use it in the evening, which strongly increases your self-consumption. The subsidy is degressive and capped at €2,250, reached at a usable capacity of 9 kWh, with a ceiling of €800/kWh.

The battery is only eligible if it equips a photovoltaic installation (new or existing) and must have a usable capacity of at least 2 kWh.

A heat pump is an excellent replacement for an oil or gas boiler. The 2026 amounts are flat rates that depend on the type of pump (air/water or geothermal) and on your situation.

Important: the subsidy can never exceed 50% of the total cost of the installation (supply and fitting).

A few rules apply to all Klimabonus subsidies:

• The home must be located in Luxembourg and used mainly for residential purposes.
• Photovoltaic: minimum power of 2 kWp, operating in self-consumption.
• Battery: usable capacity of at least 2 kWh, coupled with a solar installation.
• The installation must be carried out by a professional; keep the detailed invoices.
• An agreement in principle is obtained before work begins (except for installer-managed pre-financing).
